Trans Bhutan Trail

Travel deeper, experience more, and feel the true spirit of Bhutan.

TRANS BHUTAN TRAIL - 31 DAYS | 30 NIGHTS

The Trans Bhutan Trail is a historic 400-kilometer (250-mile) route that stretches across the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan, connecting villages, forests, monasteries, and mountain passes. Once used by pilgrims, traders, and messengers, the trail has been restored to allow travelers to experience the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage through multi-day trekking journeys. It offers flexible itineraries that range from short hikes lasting a few days to longer expeditions of 12 days or more, depending on the traveler’s interests and pace.

Many journeys begin with an international flight into Paro, located at an elevation of about 2,300 meters. Visitors often start by exploring the famous cliffside monastery Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery), one of the country’s most iconic spiritual sites. From there, trekkers can hike selected sections of the trail such as the scenic route between Chendebji and Tsangkha, or the culturally rich stretch from Trongsa to Gyetsa.

Along the way, travelers may also visit the capital city Thimphu and the historic valley of Punakha, known for its impressive fortress and scenic landscapes. The journey can conclude with time in the peaceful Haa Valley, where visitors experience traditional Bhutanese life, quiet villages, and breathtaking mountain scenery.
